Third-graders at Warsaw Christian School dressed in costume for Columbus Day. Christopher Columbus and John Smith were played by Stephen Kolbe; Pocahontas was Taylor Moore; her father, Powhatan, was Jacob Melcher. Victoria Flores played an Indian trader; Hannah McCarty, an Indian. Pirates were Nate Pearl, Zeb Lewis, Christopher Silveus, Cody Kline, Aaron Haller and Logan Kneller. Abby Stewart and Julianne Haines were Pilgrim wives with their babies.
WCS students sold more than $14,000 worth of chocolate as a fundraiser. Brittany Hartwiger was the top seller; Victoria Flores, second-place seller; and Wesley Craig, third-place seller.

North Webster Parents, Teachers and Friends Organization are sponsoring a carnival Oct. 13 at the school with a new game, Dinosaur Dig game. Games committee members are Cindy Wihebrink, Linda Strombeck, Mary Wiggs and Karen Owens.
Tippecanoe Valley High School named Jay Craig, No. 88 on the football team, and Heidi Smithson, homecoming king and queen.
Outdoor Scene by John Davis read, “High school math teacher Mike Priest and I loaded his 16-foot jon boat with equipment for a night of limb-line catfishing along the Tippecanoe River. After attaching the line to the limb, Mike hooked a chub minnow and flipped it into the water. Twenty lines were set with small, bright red tags and next morning, only nine catfish were dancing on their respective branches.”

Jack Wilhite showed Randy Polston, both of Winona Lake, how to decorate their bikes for the Kiwanis Kids’ Day Parade Saturday.
Area High School National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists are Alan R. Tschetter, Warsaw; Thomas J. Clayton, Syracuse; Rodney J. Hine, North Webster; David Leroy Norris, Mentone; Kenneth J. Hauser, South Whitley; Lloyd E. Jefferies, Rochester; and Robert K. Kauffman, Columbia City.
Kosciusko County United Fund Queen Geri Bauer, Syracuse, lit a torch at the courthouse lawn, officially opening the 1964 drive.

Al Gerard and members of his clerking staff, Dick Silveus and Ernest Kelly, received one of the largest shipments of women’s fall and winter galoshes in a single order. A total of 40 cases, or 960 pair of Goodrich Shu Glovs are contained in boxes piled high in front of the Central Shoe Store.
Mrs. Millard Stookey, Leesburg, brought to the attention of the Times the tallest stalk of home-grown corn – 12 feet.
Howard Smith, Warsaw, turned over to police a pocketbook he found by a fire hydrant at Center and Buffalo streets. It was the property of Helen Achor, Anderson, and contained 40 cents in change and keys.
