The L.N. Pete Thorn Award for 2002 was recently presented to Richard “Dick” McCleary by the Warsaw Rotary Club. McCleary has been the long-time Scoutmaster of Troop 715, Winona Lake, as well as the Kosciusko District Chairman of Cub Scout Activities, most notably Cub Scout Day Camp that has been held for more than 25 years at Rising Arrow Camp on CR 400S. The first award was presented to the late Louis “Peanuts” Breading.

    Two Queens Share Spotlight - Jenny Haines and Krista Hanft were named homecoming co-queens at Warsaw Community High School Friday night. Senior football player Todd Waikel was named  the king. The parents of the students are David and Babs Haines, Don and Mary Hanft, and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Waikel.

    “The Face of American Youth,” a documentary motion picture produced by Ken Anderson, Warsaw, has been selected for special study by the National Council of Churches and by Union Theological Seminary.
     Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Dennie, of Bourbon, recently returned from attending a convention in  Hawaii.

    When it was found that fair rides and shows were refusing to admit school children at the promised half-fare rate Friday, Mayor C.C. DuBois, Police Chief Lucas and Fair Association Director Gael Munson, closed all the non-complying shows for a half hour Friday afternoon, before the carnival company management finally agreed to entertain the children at half rate. The school children’s half price rate was to be effective only on Friday until 5 p.m.
