    SILVER LAKE - In Gary and Debbie Smalley's living room on top of the television set sits a little wooden star that reads, "Miracles happen to those who believe."

After about 11 months of a rigorous and often difficult adoption process, the Smalleys adopted Milagro de Maria. Her name means "Miracle of Mary." She arrived at their Silver Lake home Aug. 22.

    POTPOURRI - Mayor Paul E. "Mike" Hodges has performed plenty of marriage ceremonies in his time, and some in rather unique settings.

Recently, the mayor added another ceremony to his long list when he married Jane Clem, the city sewage sanitation collection clerk, and Jeff Edmond, a member of the Warsaw Plan Commission and an employee of Zimmer Inc., on the ninth green at the Rozella Ford Golf Course.

    The Warsaw High School cross country team downed Peru 15-50 at Peru to boost its record to six straight wins after two early season losses.

Mike Munson, of Warsaw, won the race in 10:16. Jim Case, John DeGood, Denny Homer and Jack Bradbury were close behind.

October 21 1933

    Mauzy's Sportsmen won a close bowling match from Bolinger's Bulldogs last evening by nine pins. The Sportsmen scored a total of 1436 pins to the Bulldogs' 1427. Russell Bolinger was high scorer of the evening. He netted a total of 315 pins in three frames. The Sportsmen's team was composed of Clifford Chapman, Thames Mauzy, Wallace Minear, Thomas Hay and gibson Bolinger. Albert Parker, Wilbur Smith, Richard Wymond and Russell Bolinger represented the Bulldogs.
