Abu Oil Can III, from Saudi Arabia, (alias John Davis of Warsaw) gave a $5 million check to Burleigh Burgh of Breading Cigar Store in Warsaw if Burgh would quit cooking. The check was not refused and Burgh will continue to cook until the check clears.

Mr. and Mrs. Lester White and Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Fervada of North Webster returned recently from a visit in Arum, Holland. They stayed 12 days at a “bed and breakfast” pension house in Friesland Province. Fervada’s cousins showed them the area. Highlight of the trip included a trip to one of the largest zoos in the world at Emmen.

Mayor Paul (Mike) Hodges and four other well-known Warsaw men will leave to hunt pheasants in South Dakota. Joining the mayor in this field outing will be Harold (Dutch) Ford, Norman Kelly and Dick Silveus, and Harry Weiss. They plan to return to Warsaw in about 10 days.

A 27-pound Buffalo fish was caught by Glen Rife, Warsaw, in Winona Lake a few days ago. It measured 38 inches in length, and had scales almost the size of a silver dollar. Rife hit it over the head with an oar then lifted it by hand into his boat. It attracted much attention when displayed at the Daniels market here. A fish epicurean took it home to bake and feed a group of friends.
