Kosciusko County Emergency Management Director, Ed Rock, is manufacturing identification cards for all police, fire and law personnel throughout the county. The cards, which have bar codes on back, will be scanned at disaster sites.

The North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Friends of the Library and Post 253 of the American Legion have already collected 275 paperbacks for the troops serving in the Persian Gulf. "When we have 1,000 books, Grissom Air Force Base will fly them out for us."
Equipment for the county's 911 service has been delivered to the sheriff's department and the city police. The service is expected to be on line for Warsaw residents with phone prefixes 267, 269 and 372 on Nov. 1. United Telephone is installing the equipment.

Mr. and Mrs. Bert Reese, of Beaver Dam Lake, will be honored at an afternoon coffee Sunday, Sept. 26, by Mrs. Melvin Stiffler, Warsaw, in celebration of their 61st wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Reese are the grandparents of Melvin "Bud" Stiffler, who is serving with the armed forces in Korea.
Veteran fireman, Robert "Gimpy" Gearhart, measures the prize head of cabbage grown on his father's farm northeast of the city. It is of the Pennsylvania Flat Dutch variety weighing 17 pounds and measuring 15 inches across. The cabbage was prepared for the firemen and other City Hall workers at a noon meal last week.
75 Years
Mrs. Harry Lewallen, wife of the local Legion post commander, has been selected to act as national page during the national American Legion and Auxiliary convention in Boston next week. Mr. and Mrs. Lewallen will board the Pennsylvania "General" here Saturday, Sept. 21, when it makes a special stop for their convenience. Mr. Lewallen is an alternate delegate to the convention.
Roy S. Buckman, Nappanee, elected 1941 governor of Indiana District of Kiwanis International, will appoint C.A. Mutschler, Nappanee, as his district secretary.
Howard Hoppus, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thurlow Hoppus, of Warsaw, left Wednesday, Sept. 18, for a final examination at Chicago and then be stationed at San Diego with the U.S. Marines. He is messenger boy for Western Union here.
