Last year’s Homecoming King and Queen at Lakeland Christian Academy, John Franklin and Ashley Addair, helped crown this year’s king and queen, Alex Lewis and Erica Landolt. Runners-up for king were Charles Lee and John Wildman; for queen, Abbey Herendeen and Ah-Young Yoo. After the coronation, there was a contemporary Christian music concert by The Elms.
Stan Strycker, a senior at Wawasee High School, has been named a commended student in the 2005 National Merit Scholarship Program. Principal Ellen Stevens will present to him a letter of commendation from the school and the National Merit Corp.

Liz Surface welcomed Jill DeBatty and Sandy Manuel into the Lambda Chi Omega sorority. The sorority supplies glasses to grade school children in Kosciusko County.
Doug Kehler, a United Telephone employee, ran into Chris Schenkel of ABC Sports when they both were attending the Stonehenge Golf Tourney. Kehler’s mother, Lucille, taught Schenkel in grade school in Bippus.
Karen Garrard has been chosen as the Warsaw area coordinator for the 10th anniversary celebration of Concerned Women for America. Local residents can see the show via satellite with a hook up at the Century Center in South Bend Nov. 4. Gospel singer Sandi Patty will entertain.

Recipients of the “Sixth Annual Man and Woman of the Year” awards for 1964 are Hobart Creighton and Lucy McKown. They join previous winners Carl W. Burt and Daisy Lou Baum, 1963; Joe Ettinger and Emily Snapp, 1962; Judge Jesse Eschbach and Marie Armstrong, 1961; Max Truex and Mamie Braddock, 1960; and Lee Norman “Pete” Thorn and Hazel Murphy, who were the first recipients in 1959.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell and Goldie Jones Ring, Claypool, observed their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 17. Their children are Roger and Donald, Claypool, and Mrs. Ward Barehan, Warsaw.

Jessie Thayer, who passed away July 25 at the age of 72 years, is kindly remembered by many ex-doughboys, who through her efforts received their war claims. She was executive secretary of the Red Cross in 1920-21.
Pierceton’s annual street fair was held Sept. 5 to 9. Officers this year included Oscar Radcliff, president; Clark Paxton, Ward Kerr, Stanley Weaver, vice presidents; LeRoy Kilgore, secretary; H.L. Switzer, treasurer.
Earl Himes, North Webster’s Tippecanoe Township trustee, has never missed a Sunday school at the Methodist Church in 19 years. He is also superintendent of the class and president of the county’s farm bureau.
