10 Years Ago For the next month, residents of Kosciusko County will be given the opportunity to read - and discuss - the same book. The Community Read program, called “Plant the Seed - Read!” was officially kicked off in the Central Park Gardens. Introduced by Brenda Rigdon, executive director of Kosciusko Literacy Services, and Suzie Light, executive director of the Kosciusko County Community Foundation, the brief ceremony presented the program to the public. 25 Years Ago The Warsaw Breakfast Optimists Club concluded their year with an awards banquet and new officers installation recently at the Shrine Building. Approximately 130 persons attended. Outgoing President Bret Wolf made two major awards presentations: The Rookie of the Year award was given to Larry Poyser; the Optimist of the Year award was given to Jack Ballentine, a charter member and past president of the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club. 50 Years Ago An estimated 2,500 persons inspected the facilities of the beautiful new $1,800,000 Warsaw Community High School building on East Smith Street during “Open House” that followed a dedication program in the gymnasium. The building, which has four wings, was officially dedicated when Jerry Lessig, one of the local firms of D.H. Lessig, Engineers presented a key to Bruce Maish, president of the school board. 75 Years Ago Warsaw and parts of Kosciusko County early Thursday experienced a light fall of snow. In some places the ground was made white. Temperature dropped to as low as 25 degrees above zero and as a result many motorists early Thursday experienced some difficulty in starting their automobiles and trucks.
