10 Years AgoThe city of Warsaw closed the deal with Northern Indiana Public Service Co. for the building at 2191 E. Fort Wayne St. three weeks ago, Mayor Ernie Wiggins said. About 10 acres, along with the building, were acquired by the city. Wiggins said at this point the Warsaw Police Department needs most of the space. The mayor and clerk treasurer's office will not move to that building, but will likely remain in the existing city building, he said.25 Years AgoP. Lowell Haines has been named vice president for student development by Taylor University President Jay L. Kesler, in consultation with Provost/Executive Vice President Daryl R. Yost.Haines, 32, is a 1971 graduate of Warsaw Community High School and a 1975 Taylor University graduate. He earned an M.A. in student personnel administration and higher education previous to being named residence hall director of Samuel Morris dormitory, and was appointed director of student programs in 1980. Haines is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Paul W. Haines, Winona Lake.50 Years AgoJohn R. Hall, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Robert Hall, Warsaw, was among Indiana University sophomores whose excellent standing in Army ROTC has won them promotion to the rank of non-commissioned officers of the cadet brigade. Hall was promoted to cadet corporal.75 Years AgoA number of schoolmates had a shower party recently, complimentary to Mrs. Roy Shand, formerly Louise Thompson, at her home in Warsaw. Shand received many beautiful gifts. The evening was spent in playing games and refreshments were served to the 24 guests present.
