10 Years Ago Hannah Bessinger, daughter of Clint and Melissa Bessinger, Tippecanoe, was named 2005 Triton Junior Miss during Sunday’s competition at the high school. Reigning 2004 Triton Junior Miss Victoria Mason performed “I Must Go” as her farewell. Bessinger also was named the Spirit of Junior Miss. She sang “Only Hope” for her talent portion. First runner-up was Anna Smith, daughter of Byron and Eloise Smith, Bourbon. Megan Weissert, daughter of Marc and Judith Weissert, Bourbon, was named second runner-up. Erica Barton, daughter of Mark and Dava Barton, Bourbon, won the talent competition. Warsaw sophomore Emily Johnson, daughter of Tom and Deb Johnson, competed in the “Legends of Indiana” girls golf finals in Franklin. She is the defending state champion and shot a two-day total of 156 to finish eighth. 25 Years Ago Pastors Paul and Mark James of Warsaw Wesleyan Church are natives of South Carolina and were concerned about the devastation caused by Hurricane Hugo in their home state. Metzger Trucking Co., Silver Lake, has supplied a semi truck to be parked at the church, and Chore-Time Equipment, Milford, has offered to pay the cost of transporting the load to Charleston. The church is working together with the Red Cross and Salvation Army. Mark Kroft, 111 Meadow Ridge Drive, Warsaw, was honored as Big Brother of the Year; his little brother is Brett McDonald, 10, Warsaw. Big Sister of the Year was Dawn Sanchez, 1804 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw; her little sister is Buffy Cummins, 13, Warsaw. Rookie Big Brothers were John Rice and Rodney Chiddester, both Warsaw; Teresa Deafenbaugh, Warsaw, and Kay Hershberger, Silver Lake, were named Rookie Big Sisters. 50 Years Ago The radiology department at Murphy Medical Center has been expanded. It has been inspected by the accredited Parkview School of X-ray Technology and is one of only two affiliates of the school permitted to train students. Dr. J.L. Loudermilk is a senior member of the radiology firm serving the hospital. His son took over the practice of Dr. John Hillery when he retired. Lake City Bank team won the YMCA softball league championship for the second straight year with a perfect 15-0 record. Team members were Dick Harstine, Bruce Nolan, Dan Pacheco, Bob Halliwell, Ron Henry, Tom Jones, Knute Larson, Toby Kidder, Noel Hoke, Dave McGown, Eloy Pacheco and Richard Dilling.
