The frame is made of chicken wire and window screen, the head is a foam wig holder and the outer shell is wheat paste and paper. The torch is a light bulb, with the cord running down the arm. The statue took a week to build, with another week devoted to research about it. It was built to teach the pupils more about what the statue represents, liberty and freedom. The sixth-graders are giving presentations to other classes in the school.50 Years AgoThese recipes are from the Woman's Exchange column dated Oct. 14, 1960. Persons who are willing to dig potatoes should report to the Wayne Township commissary. It is believed that many persons will volunteer to dig the potatoes before the stamp tax is due. The tax on potatoes is being called a "poor man's tax", which the Roosevelt-Tugwell administration is putting into effect.
