Nancy Shoemaker, Jim Folk and Robert Lichtenwalter received Indiana Retired Teachers Certificates of Honor for the outstanding volunteer hours of service given to the community. Kosciusko County Retired Teachers met Sept. 13 at the First Brethren Church. President JoAnn Rosbrugh welcomed 70 members.
Eva Hartman, Akron, will celebrate her 90th birthday Oct. 2 at the Akron United Methodist Church basement, hosted by her children, John, Akron, and Judy Grigsby, Warsaw. She was born Sept. 23, 1915 to Charlie and Mercy Tucker. Her husband, Henry, passed away in 1989.

Donnelley honors 25-year employees in August: David “Mike” Cook, Gary Lemons, Ron Scott, Ethel Secor, Kermit “Ken” Collins and Phillip Waddle.
WRSW managers announced the promotion of Andrew Farmer to assistant chief engineer. He has worked at WRSW since March 1980 as an announcer and reporter, and will continue those duties, but will also work under the leadership of chief engineer, Jim Swearingen. Farmer began his broadcasting career in 1972 at Manchester College, WBKE.
Richard and Gloria Shipley have been named 1990 Realtors of the Year by the Kosciusko County Board of Realtors. Shipley Realty was opened in Warsaw April, 1975.

Randy Hatfield, 10, son of Mr. and Mrs. Junior Hatfield, Warsaw, and Tommy Meade, 10, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Meade, Warsaw, were the proud displayers of a 16-inch carp they caught in Eagle Creek. It seems the fish ran away with the pole and a bystander had to go in and capture it.
Former Warsaw High School grid standout, Dave Evans, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Evans, Warsaw, a 6-1, 189-pound sophomore at Indiana University, will be in uniform when the Fightin' Hoosiers suit up for their opening game against Kansas State Sept. 18 at Bloomington. Evans has been moved to defensive halfback by Coach John Pont.

The Oswego School will be abandoned this fall and its 38 pupils will be transported to the consolidated school at Leesburg. The Oswego School had two teachers, Ruth Lash and Virginia Slabaugh, who taught six grades, and now will be members of the Leesburg teaching staff. Trustee Percy M. Bridenthrall states the Oswego school building will be maintained and available as a community center.
