Students at Harrison Elementary raised $5,368.73 through their penny pitch. They donated the money to Becky Notestine, executive director of the local Red Cross chapter, to be sent to help victims of the Sept. 11 tragedy. Those present for the presentation were Jon Burch, Kaitalyn Smith, Claire Nickerson, Tara Akers, Hannah Crance, Becky Notestine, Chase Shearman, Jacob MacDonald and Allan Frye.

For the third year in a row, Warsaw swept through its girls cross country dual meet season with a perfect record. The No. 9-ranked Tigers kept the record perfect at Grace College topping Rochester 15-45 and NorthWood 15-49 in a three-way meet involving Northern Lakes Conference teams. Beth Irvine led five Tiger girls across the finish line first in 16:17. Krista Ross was second, followed by Sondra Groves, who set a senior record with a 16:46 run on the Grace Course. The wins give Warsaw 21 straight dual meet wins over three years.

A $450,000 project, the new Grace College women’s dormitory features 82 double rooms, a counselor’s suite, a main lounge on the first floor, and a small second floor lounge. On the ground floor is a cafeteria, which will accommodate 300 persons. The project is being financed through the Brethren Investment Foundation, which is an arm of the Brethren Home Missions Council. Work will begin in 1962, and will enable the college women to move from their present residence at the Westminster Hotel.

Little Billie May Gross was a congenial hostess to her small friends who surprised her on her sixth-birthday anniversary. At the table where a delightful luncheon was served by Miss Margaret Roberts and Mrs. Gross, the group sang, “Happy Birthday To You.” Those present were Billie May Gross, Ruth and Julia Pifer, Sarah Wainwright, Eilene and Arlene Yarger. The party adjourned when it was time to return to school.
