10 Years Ago Wawasee High School recently honored Lorene Spearman Teel and Shanna Zolman with plaques for their athletic accomplishments. Teel is a 1978 graduate of Wawasee High School, while Zolman graduated in 2002, also a graduate of Wawasee High School. The plaques are a permanent display of their high school achievements that include them as a National Record Holder while a prep student. 25 Years Ago This recipe for Lasagna (With Dry Noodles) was submitted by Kurt A. Hoffman, Warsaw for the Spotlight Recipe Contest. Sauce: 1 lb. ground beef; 3 oz. diced onion; 3 oz. sliced pepperoni; 1 tsp. sugar; 1/4 tsp. pepper; 1 tsp. garlic salt; 1-1/2 cup diced canned tomatoes; 1-1/2 cup tomato puree; 1/4 cup tomato paste. Other: 1 cup water; 12 oz. noodles (dry); 8 oz. Mozzarella cheese; 1 oz. grated Parmesan cheese; 1 tsp. leaf oregano. Saute meat and onion until brown. Mix all remaining sauce ingredients. Boil. Reduce heat. Simmer 30 minutes. In oiled pan, place one layer of dry noodles. Pour 2 cups sauce, 1 tsp. Parmesan cheese and 2 oz. Mozzarella cheese. Do this two more times. Sprinkle 1 tsp. leaf oregano. Cover with foil. Bake 1-1/2 hours at 350 degrees. Uncover and let stand 15 minutes. 50 Years Ago The dam at Syracuse will soon be replaced. An anonymous donor has pledged $50,000 to replace the dam with one that will be self-regulating and maintain a constant level. Control of the dam has been a point of contention between Syracuse and Lake Wawasee residents. Syracuse uses water power during high water periods to run pumps for the city water system. 75 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Whitney, of Pierceton, entertained with a supper party at midnight Saturday. Cards and bingo were played.
