10 Years Ago Silver Lake’s new town park will soon have electricity, but the park is already being vandalized, town marshal Craig Holopeter said recently during the town council meeting. The town council approved $377 to connect the wiring from the NIPSCO electric pole. Ed French, Silver Lake, will do the work. 25 Years Ago Gary Jungels, Warsaw Community High School senior, was one of 20 outstanding Indiana high school seniors chosen to participate in a two-day world leadership conference to be hosted by Wabash College. Those selected will hear former U.N. Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick and other national leaders discuss the topic “The U.S., The U.N. and The World: Who Leads?” 50 Years Ago Nancy Taylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Taylor, of Disko, is 10 years old this – the 10th day of the 10th month – Oct. 10, 1962. It should also be noted that she was born six minutes before 10 p.m. Her mother is from Silver Lake, her father from the Claypool area. One son, Tom, 11, delivers The Times-Union in Disko. The Taylors also have another daughter, Joyce, aged 8. 75 Years Ago Wilmer Latta, 14-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Latta, Warsaw, will leave for South Bend where he will join a group of boys, newspaper carriers, for a five-day trip to New York City. Wilmer has won four trips and has visited Washington, D.C., New Orleans and Niagara Falls.
