10 Years AgoThree weeks after receiving a Bronze Ax from his own department, Claude Swick was named the county's Fireman of the Year.Swick, 85, has been a member of the Burket Fire Department for 38 years. His fellow firefighters nominated Swick for the award and he accepted it before the crowd gathered for the annual Kosciusko County Firemen's Association fish fry.25 Years AgoWarsaw and Milford are among 10 municipalities and five northwest Indiana cities that are recipients of an award for Community Achievement in interlocal cooperation. The awards conclude the 85th Annual Indiana Association of Cities & Towns Conference & Educational Exhibition here. Warsaw received its award for its public-private sector cooperative effort to revitalize the downtown areas, offering low interest loans to spur improvement which involved the cooperation of four local banks and the community development corporation.50 Years AgoMax Truex -- this nation's greatest distance runner -- and Mrs. Mamie Braddock, English teacher at Warsaw High School for 35 years -- last night were named Warsaw's "Man and Woman of the Year" at the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet attended by 166 men and women at the Elks lodge. Chamber President William Hadley presented engraved plaques, donated by The Times-Union, to Mrs. Braddock and to Mr. and Mrs. Russell Truex, Warsaw, who accepted on behalf of their son, Air Force Lt. Truex, who is somewhere between Germany and the United States.75 Years AgoMr. and Mrs. Bert Sellers of this city left for St. Louis to attend the National American Legion Convention.Maynard and Wayne Zolman of Claypool made a business trip to Detroit, Mich., and Windsor, Canada recently.Miss Zelda Beigh, who has enjoyed one week's vacation in Indianapolis with relatives and friends, has resumed her position at Dr. W.B.
