10 Years AgoSouth Whitley Elementary third-graders last year entered a contest by Scholastic Magazine to make a video that would be shown on MSNBC during the Olympics. Teacher Karen Hathaway asked her third- graders if they wanted to enter, and the students ran with the idea. The SWE video was one of 50 chosen to be shown during the Olympics.The students are now in the fourth grade and they're excited about their video being chosen. The students picked countries and sports and followed a script specified by Scholastic. They filmed six takes as a group and six of individual students.25 Years AgoLinda Taylor, a 1966 graduate of Warsaw High School, has been appointed principal of Cibola High School in Albuquerque, N.M. She began teaching mathematics in Albuquerque after graduating from Indiana University in 1969. She taught 10 years before moving into an assistant principalship at West Mesa High School where she served for five years. She is the wife of Lynn Taylor, also a graduate of Warsaw High School. She is the daughter of Earl and Marie Gooch, former residents of Warsaw, and granddaughter of Mary Heiman.50 Years AgoMr. and Mrs. Albert Penn, of Syracuse, sailed from San Francisco aboard the liner President Hoover, bound for Japan. After business conferences and sightseeing there, they will fly to Hong Kong for a two-week stay, then go on to Thailand, the Philippines, Guam and Hawaii. In Hawaii they'll be guests of Penn's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Black, and family. Early in December Penn will participate in the national senior open golf tournament in Palm Springs, Calif. The Penns expect to be back at Lake Wawasee by mid-December.75 Years Ago A dinner party was held recently at the home of Miss Margaret Kintzel on North Lake Street. The three-course dinner was served at 6:30 o'clock at tables decorated in the colors of pink, yellow and white, with lighted candles planted in the center of bouquets for center-pieces. Following dinner each girl at the tables put together a jig-saw puzzle, which formed two gold bells with the announcement written on it of the coming marriage of Miss Kintzel to Dr. E. Winton Thomas, of Leesburg, on Oct. 20.
