Young Children Priority One Committee members representing the Warsaw Kiwanis Club are Jill Christine and co-chairwoman Julie Steele. Volunteers for the Kiwanis Club have read to Head Start children since 1997.25 Years AgoThis recipe for Calico Beans was submitted by Gail Martin, Warsaw, and was printed in the Spotlight Recipe Contest. Ingredients are as follows:1 lb. ground beef; 1/2 lb. bacon; 1 cup chopped onion; 1/2 cup catsup; 1 tsp. salt; 3/4 cup brown sugar; 1 tsp. mustard; 2 tsp. vinegar; 1-15 oz. can green limas; 1-15 oz. can kidney beans; 1-16 oz. can pork and beans.Brown ground beef, bacon and onion together. Drain. Mix catsup, salt, brown sugar, mustard and vinegar. Add to drained meat mixture. Add beans to this. Put into uncovered casserole dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. This needs to be stirred occasionally as it will stick.50 Years AgoA Times-Union survey, just completed, reveals that 8,785 boys and girls are attending Warsaw and Kosciusko county schools this week -- 228 more than the 8,557 of the 1959-60 school year. Most of the 228 increase is in the Warsaw schools. There are 3,078 attending the eight Warsaw Community Schools, plus the two parochial grade schools, Sacred Heart Catholic and Grace Brethren. During the 1959-60 year there were 2,884.75 Years AgoA new driver on the Greyhound bus lines, observing the barrier down on East Center Street car tracks, recently embedded in concrete in the paving of Lincoln Highway, drove the Chicago-bound truck down to Hickory Street. Here difficulty was encountered and planks were laid and the truck was switched to East Main Street. The tracks were opened late Saturday to car traffic so the new pavement was not damaged.
