On Aug. 27 at 3 p.m., the thermometer registered 72 degrees and at 6 a.m., Aug. 28, the thermometer had dropped to 47 degrees, only 15 degrees above freezing. Farmers in the county are now fearful that the entire corn crop will be destroyed as the corn needs hot dry weather to cure.
