10 Years AgoWashington Elementary School fifth-grade teacher Gary Hawblitzel performed as a professional water skier this summer at Sea World in Orlando. Hawblitzel, who skied on Chapman Lake growing up, will continue to perform in the water ski show at Sea World in Aurora, Ohio, the last weekend in August and Labor Day weekend, as the water ski season draws to a close in the Midwest.25 Years AgoThe Summer reading program at the Warsaw Community Library came to a close with an award day for the students. Some 443 students completed their reading contracts, which is the greatest number since the inception of the program, according to the staff at the Children's Services Department at the library. The theme for this year's program was "The Magic of Books."50 Years AgoMr. and Mrs. Russell Truex, of Warsaw, are due back from New York City today, after spending several days with their son Max before he flew to Switzerland. From there Max will go to Rome to take part in the Olympics. Two of his Warsaw friends, Ray Heiman and Larry Mulcahy, will see him run. Lt. Heiman, his wife, Jackie, and children are driving down from Worms, Germany, with Mulcahy. They're hoping Max will have time to visit them later in Germany.75 Years AgoFrank Meredith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Del Meredith of Warsaw, has accepted a position as instructor of industrial arts and English in Atwood High school. Mr. Meredith is a graduate of Purdue University.
