10 Years AgoLetter to the Editor: When I opened my July 26 paper, I thought you had printed a painting by Claude Monet.Realizing it was actually a photograph, I knew without checking that the photographer was Gary Nieter.The picture's impressionistic beauty rivals similar Monet's. No doubt Claude would agree. Never let this gifted artist, Mr. Nieter, be lured from our community.Oh yes, we live on Waubee Lake and are certain the Great Blue Heron is one of our frequent visitors!Bev Bibler, Milford25 Years AgoTall Tale - Six-year-old Bobby Slone, Warsaw, was dwarfed by the giant sunflower he planted earlier this year. The 12-foot plant grew next to his parent's garage. Bobby is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Slone.50 Years AgoWarsaw's summer recreation program came to an enjoyable end when more than 100 boys and girls received their awards at the "awards night" program at the far west little league diamond on East Market Street.These five youngsters and one adult received trophies: Greg Colt, Little League American: Lana Garber, honorable mention, girls softball; and Don Bussard, Little League National. Also, Paul Brown, manager of the Cardinals in the National Minors, selected as the manager who contributed the most toward the betterment of the players; Linda Bird, most outstanding girls softball, and Tom Evans, most outstanding in the Pony league.75 Years AgoMr. and Mrs. John Holderman and Mr. and Mrs. John Rapp have returned to their homes in Warsaw after spending several days in southern Indiana, visiting the Shades and Turkey Run. At Greencastle, they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Ellis.
