10 Years AgoThe second annual Cardinal Center Million Dollar Hole-In-One was considered a success, even though not one golfer out of the 32 finalists shot an ace. More than $29,000 was raised for Cardinal Center Inc. The top five finishers were: Glenn Thomson, first; Kurt Kamholz, second; Tom Blain, third; Stewart Wysong, fourth; and Ray Harroff, fifth. 25 Years AgoBecause of an honest milk truck driver, Rick Poe of Chapman Lake can count his money and his blessings.An unidentified truck driver from the Indianapolis area recently found and returned to Poe a wallet containing a $2,500 check and $40 in cash plus credit cards and personal items. The check was payment for a car that Poe had sold. Poe lost his wallet at a rest stop along Ind. 15, just north of Ind. 6. The truck driver who drives through the area daily, found the wallet and called Poe from his home, and they met the following day to return the wallet.50 Years AgoSharon Mauzy, 14, of Warsaw, was crowned Pioneer Days "Derby Queen" by Ed Shaffner, who served as contest co-chairman with W. Robert Hall. Melody Jo Ballenger, 12, of Claypool, was third runner-up, and Mimi Engle, 11, of Warsaw, was first runner-up. Fifty-eight girls aged 11 through 15 competed in the contest. Miss Mauzy reigned over the boys' Soap Box Derby.75 Years AgoA school problem is confronting not only Wayne Township Trustee Floyd Robbins, but also the Warsaw board of education, with the moving in to Winona Lake of the large number of new families attached to the Free Methodist organization, recently located there. Not only is a considerable increase in enrollment in the East Wayne School expected, but also in the Warsaw High School.
