10 Years AgoTamar Strohschein and Sheila Chan are the recipients of the 2000 Academic Excellence Award, given by the Committee to Commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Strohschein, a 1999 Tippecanoe Valley High School graduate, took first place and received a $2,000 savings bond. The daughter of George and Lorna Strohschein, Akron, she is a freshman at Maryville University, St Louis. Chan, who graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1999, received $500. She will be a sophomore at Indiana University and is the daughter of David and Lily Chan.25 Years AgoThere were 114 entrants in the second annual First National Bank of Warsaw's Kiddie Tractor Pull during Pioneer Days. The winners in the weight classes were: Christopher Tucker, heavyweight; Maria Kittrell, 50-59 pounds; Stephanie Pence, 40-49; and Taylor Goon, 30-39. Also, Ryan Logan, 60-69 pound winner. Dennis Burch and Willis Alt, represented First National Bank.50 Years AgoFifty-nine boys aged 11 through 15 will take their homemade Soap Box Derby cars to the Munson storage garage, Warsaw, for final inspection prior to the races here this Saturday.The annual Soap Box Derby will be one of the features of Warsaw's annual Pioneer Days celebration. The youthful drivers will march in the Pioneer Days parade Friday night.75 Years AgoA very neat and convenient "house trailer," with almost every needful appliance for use and comfort while traveling, was exhibited on the street today by E.A. Williams, the milk dealer. Of the house-car's many equipments is a miniature fireplace with mantel, which would furnish plenty of heat on cool evenings while out in camp. The house-car was constructed by the owner, who had previous experience in a metal and wood-working plant before his removal to Warsaw. Williams' house-car is an exceptionally fine piece of work.
