10 Years Ago When Bennett Hollar attended Tiger Basketball Camp this week, it marked the third generation of Hollars to go through the program. Charles Hollar, 61, played basketball for Warsaw High School and graduated in 1958. His son, Steve, 34, played for Warsaw Community High School's 1984 state championship team and graduated in 1985. Bennett will be in the second grade in the Warsaw school system. Steve is not the only player from the 1984 state championship team to have a son attend this yearÕs camp, which started Monday and runs through Friday. Former players Jeff Grose, Scott Long and Tracy Furnivall also have sons in camp.
25 Years Ago Julie Ann Chubb, 20-year-old daughter of Jerry and Ann Chubb of Warsaw, is representing Kosciusko County in the Miss Indiana Scholarship Pageant currently being held in Michigan City. Miss Indiana will be crowned Saturday night. Chubb won the Kosciusko Scholarship Pageant last summer and ended her reign last week when Shelly Sanders was crowned 1986 queen. Sanders will represent the Kosciusko Scholarship Pageant next year in the Miss Indiana Pageant.
50 Years Ago Kosciusko County's delegation to the 30th annual state 4-H junior leader conferences at DePauw University in Greencastle returned to their homes last weekend after spending four days at the session. They are Junior Price, Milford; Merdena Tucker, Sidney; Rita Lockridge, Beaver Dam; and Earl Roberts, Syracuse. The conference, designed to provide outstanding 4-HÕers with information on the organization and administration of 4-H clubs, was attended by more than 500 boys and girls from 91 of IndianaÕs counties. The event is sponsored annually by the Indiana district of Kiwanis International and Purdue University's agricultural extension service.
75 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Merl Gochenour have returned to Warsaw from a three-week trip through the East. They went to Cambridge, Mass., where their son, John Gochenour, graduated from Harvard University. He accompanied them to Warsaw to spend the summer. On their return trip they came through West Virginia and Kentucky, stopping along the way to visit relatives and friends.
