10 Years AgoTaking a hard look at elementary schools with small enrollments while considering an auditorium and outdoor activities area for Warsaw Community High School were just two of the suggestions by the Community-Based Planning Project. The committee also recommended that WCS should "move toward the optimum in total elementary school enrollment of 500-600 students per school" by relocating students from Atwood and Silver Lake elementaries.25 Years AgoThis recipe was submitted in the 1985 Spotlight Recipe Contest: Hummingbird Cake.3 cups flour; 1 tsp. salt; 1 tsp. cinnamon; 1-1/4 cup Wesson oil; 1 (8 oz.) can crushed pineapple; 3/4 cup pecans; 2 cups sugar; 1 tsp. baking soda; 3 eggs (beaten); 1-1/2 tsp. vanilla; 1/4 cup walnuts; 2 cups chopped bananas. Combine dry ingredients in large bowl; stir in eggs and oil until moistened. Add pineapple and vanilla. Stir in bananas last. Do not beat! Bake in 3 layers (9") or 9"x13"x2" pan that is well greased and floured. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.Hummingbird Cake Frosting: 1 (8 oz.) cream cheese; 1 cup butter; 1 lb. powdered sugar; 1/2 cup chopped nuts. Beat until fluffy and stir in 1 tsp. vanilla. Miss Sellers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Sellers of Pierceton, residents of Wayne township, won the coveted crown over 25 other attractive contestants.75 Years AgoMr. and Mrs. Ruel Baker, of East Center Street, have arrived home from a motor trip to the principal cities of the east, the New England states, Montreal, Quebec and Toronto, Canada. They traveled a distance of more than 4,600 miles.
