10 Years Ago Chris Garza presented a petition against altering CR 350W to the county commissioners Tuesday. The 99-signature petition, signed by property owners along the county road, indicated the residents believe a wider thoroughfare is necessary from U.S. 30 to Old 30. However, they prefer it not be 350W. "Our homes would be too close to the road," Garza said, reading from the petition, "if the project was carried out. Cars travel too fast on the road already." The commissioners accepted the petition without comment. 25 Years Ago This recipe won first place in Spotlight Strawberry Festival Recipe Contest for Wholegrain Strawberry Jam Squares. 2 cups oats (quick or old fashioned); 1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour; 1 cup butter or margarine; 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar; 1/2 cup chopped nuts; 1 tsp. cinnamon; 3/4 tsp. salt; 1/2 tsp. soda; 3/4 cup preserves (strawberry jam).
