10 Years AgoJean Kerlin of Warsaw was presented with the "Spirit of Hospice" award by the Indiana Hospice & Palliative Care Organization Inc.This award is given annually to one hospice volunteer in Indiana for giving outstanding contributions to his/her local hospice program, and exemplifying the hospice spirit. Hospice volunteer coordinator Peter Albertson recommended Kerlin for this award because of her 18-year dedication to the program.25 Years AgoThe United States Achievement Academy announced recently that Janet Lynch, Claypool, has been named a 1985 United States National Award winner in English, history and government.Miss Lynch, who attends Mentone Junior High, was nominated for this National Award by Eloise Eberly and Phillip Pratt, English and history teachers at the school. Janet is the daughter of Richard and Betty Lynch.50 Years AgoSudden gusts of wind toppled two 40-foot tents housing a religious exhibit at the Free Methodist centenary general conference at Winona Lake. A church spokesman said most of the exhibits, including expensive model churches, were damaged by rain and falling tents. The thermometer dropped 17 degrees in approximately 15 minutes Thursday evening, as gusty winds and rain hit the area. The drop was from 82 to 65 degrees.75 Years AgoOn the occasion of the 12th birthday anniversary of Evelyn Baker, the following girls enjoyed a theatre party recently: Dorothy Weaver, Evelyn Hugo, Marilyn Amos, Eleanor Ewing and Evelyn Baker. Following the show, the girls went to the ice cream parlor, where refreshments were served.
