10 Years Ago A Syracuse teenager was recently recognized by the Boy Scouts for saving the life of a 2-year-old boy. Ryan Christner, 14, received a citation for "Meritorious Action in Saving the Life of Another" from Jim Molebash, district director of the Anthony Wayne Area Council, BSA. The son of Jim and Myra Christner of Syracuse, Ryan and his cousins were at their grandfather's house near Millersburg last July, fishing in a pond when the incident happened. 25 Years Ago The following recipe appeared in the Spotlight Recipe Contest for Cheese Potatoes. 1 large bag hash browns (2 lbs. thawed); 1 stick margarine, melted; 1 large container sour cream; 1 can cream of chicken soup; 1 can cream of celery soup; 1/2 cup chopped onion; 1/3 lb. (or more) shredded sharp cheese; 1 tsp. salt Mix ingredients and put in 9' x 12' dish. Bake for 45 minutes or until bubbly and done at 350 degrees. Richard Plotner, Warsaw 50 Years Ago Ben Eagler, of Warsaw, was re-elected to the board of directors of the Methodist Memorial Home at Warren for a three-year term earlier this week. He is beginning his 22nd year on the board. Mr. and Mrs. Eagler are spending the weekend in South Bend and will attend the wedding of a nephew John Wilson. Joe Zerber and Douglas and Greg Bradt, of Warsaw, have returned from a camping trip in Martin County. They also went to Kentucky. 75 Years Ago The Wide Awake Sunday School class met recently at the home of its teacher, Mrs. Oscar Rumfelt. There were 16 members and 12 guests present. The engagement of Robert Rumfelt and Miss Joy Biller was cleverly announced by a beautiful tame pigeon, which carried the message sealed in a tiny envelope tied around its neck with pink ribbon. Pink nut cups with hanging wedding bells also concealed the announcement. Games were played, and pink and white ice cream and angel food cake were served.
