10 Years AgoAnn VanDuyne, a teacher at Washington Elementary School, was named the Wal-Mart #1304 Teacher of the Year by the associates from the Wal-Mart in Warsaw in appreciation for excellence in educationVanDuyne's "happy face" is a special Teacher of the Year rendition of the familiar blue Wal-Mart vest, which the associates presented to the outstanding teacher in addition to a $500 education grant for Washington Elementary. VanDuyne was one of 3,000 teachers from around the country who received the award.25 Years AgoBill Halpin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Halpin Jr., Warsaw, held up a catch almost as big as he was ... a 7-1/2-pound northern pike taken from Winona Lake June 1. The 10-year-old, who has just completed the fourth grade at Lincoln School, caught the fish on a 6-pound test line with no steel leader.50 Years AgoRoy Meredith, of near Akron, recently shook hands with President Eisenhower at West Point. The Merediths and their daughter were touring eastern states when they decided to drive to the Military Academy. While there the president shook hands with those near him. Mr. Meredith happened to be close.75 Years AgoMrs. Robert Whiteneck has resumed her work as Times society reporter. Mr. and Mrs. Whiteneck have returned from their honeymoon trip to Turkey Run and the Shades and are now residing in Warsaw.
