Combined Community Services Bridge-O-Rama held their final luncheon of the season recently at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club. The year-end winners were: Warsaw section, first - Peg Zimmerman and Mary Clemens, second - Erma Swank and Ione Jonas; north section, first - Ione Jonas and Jody Mosbaugh; couples section, first - Grace and Bob Mayer, second - Nancy and Jerry Anderson. One thousand dollars was presented to CCS.

An Alpine goat, belonging to 10-year-old Dan McKibbin, Atwood, gave birth to four kids last Tuesday, June 3. Twins are not unusual, triplets are uncommon, but quadruplets are extremely rare. One county veterinarian said that this is the first time he has heard of quads being born in this area. This was the first time the goat has given birth.

While sorting through a box of family keepsakes, Howard Kaar, of Winona Lake, found a 100-year-old issue of the Chicago Weekly Journal. Since it's dated Oct. 5, 1861, almost six months after the attack on Fort Sumter launched the Civil War, it's a four-page gold mine to anyone interested in the history of that period. An editorial deplored the government's policy of sending local units to the Army of the Potomac when they were urgently needed in the west.

The Lions Club of Mentone, an organization of public spirited business men who have promoted many successful enterprises for the town of Mentone, have unanimously voted to contribute funds to the new hospital erected by Dr. J.R. Baum. The Mentone Lions will pay the expenses of furnishing a complete room in the hospital. The room will be known as the Mentone Lions room. The Lions are the 10th organization to furnish a room in the new hospital which will open soon.
