10 Years AgoRelay For Life, a team event to fight cancer sponsored by the Kosciusko County Unit of the American Cancer Society, was a success Saturday."We had great turn-arounds for everything we had," said Relay For Life co-chair Chris Cotton.The goal was to raise $40,000. More than 400 people walked or ran during the 24-hour event, representing 24 teams. Last year, the event had 16 teams. The luminary ceremony, which is held to remember those who died of cancer or are battling cancer, had a crowd of approximately 400 persons.25 Years AgoThree days of entertainment, competition and fun was enjoyed by festival goers at the Mentone Egg Festival. Wayne Tombaugh, a member of the Mentone Town Board, served as grand marshal of the parade, which featured 65 entries. The slogan for the festival and parade was "Circus Celebration --Send In The Clowns."50 Years AgoChildren up to 12 years of age will have a chance to fish for prizes in the Fairlane Canal, Warsaw, while their parents browse through an open air boat show this coming Saturday.Site of the first "Children's Fishing Derby" is in the first canal west of the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds in the Fairlane Addition to the city of Warsaw. The Derby is being sponsored by the Warsaw-Winona Lake Conservation Club.75 Years AgoAt the council meeting, Councilman Silas M. Warner expects to ask the council for the removal of the unsightly shack which has been standing for weeks in the city park at Center and Indiana streets. Tourists have made unfavorable comments about the building and the once attractive park has grown up into weeds.Several weeks ago the Warsaw Builders and Trades Association was given permission by councilmen to place the shack on Indiana and Center streets promising to make it a model rebuilt home, but nothing has been done except draw the plans.
