10 Years AgoThe Indiana Troopers Association announces that Kala Bickel, a fifth-grader at Akron Elementary School, is the Fulton County winner of the "Year 2000 Fifth Grade Essay Contest." The daughter of Jeff and Laura Bickel of Akron, Kala will receive a $500 U.S. Savings Bond as well as an award certificate suitable for framing. Kala's classroom teacher is Chrissy Niedbalski. His grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Horrick, of Pierceton, also attended the ceremonies.75 Years AgoOwners of lots on East Center Street, where brick is to be removed in preparation for the construction of a new pavement, are entitled to the brick in front of their places, if they desire it, according to a Warsaw attorney who today looked up the law bearing on the matter. The abutting property owners paid for the brick and it is theirs if they want it, according to the attorney. Many of the property owners are planning on using the brick for sidewalks on their properties and for the construction of foundations.
