10 Years AgoMiss Mentone 2000 contestants were all winners recently when Cari McFadden was recognized for raising the most money for the contest. The girls, all Tippecanoe Valley High School students, placed cans for a penny a vote and held various fundraisers to benefit the band department. Tangula Cox was second runner-up and Katy Prater was first runner-up.25 Years AgoNamed valedictorian of this year's Lakeland Christian Academy graduating class was Kimberly Whitman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Whitman of Warsaw. Her grade point average was 3.97. She plans to attend Taylor University as an elementary education major.The salutatorian of the graduating class was Beth Doron, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Doron of Winona Lake. She expects to attend Biola University and major in psychology.50 Years AgoAlfred Mathiesen, of Akron, will be honored at a banquet in the Purdue Memorial Union in recognition of more than 20 years' service as a 4-H club leader. Mathiesen is attending the annual round-up of leaders and extension agents which is currently being held.75 Years AgoThe conference of the Brethren, which is being held for several days at Winona Lake, continues to be attended by an increasingly large number of representatives from all over the country. Meetings are being held in various places at Winona Lake, and addresses are heard by several prominent church members on different points of interest in regard to church work. Sunday will be a big day at the conference. There will be sermons during the day by A.W. Cordier, of Manchester College; D.W. Kurtz, A.B. Miller and E.G. Hoff.
