Stephanie Arthur was crowned Miss Mentone 2001 Saturday during the Mentone Egg Festival. Karla Jo Ross was first runner-up and Jonel Korb was second runner-up. Jackson was presented a $1,000 bond; Ross received a $400 savings bond; Korb was given a $200 bond.
Tehya Grimm, daughter of Richie and Mary Grimm, was selected the Miss Chick for 2001, and Austin Fultz, son of Brian Fultz and Misty Hoff, was selected Mr. Rooster for 2001 during the Mentone Egg Festival.

For the second time during her years in the Warsaw Community Schools, Amy Nicholls has received a national art award, repeating this year an honor first bestowed in eighth grade. The daughter of Harold and Barb Nicholls, Warsaw, Amy was named a gold plaque winner at the National Scholastic Art Competition in New York this spring. Her textile entry – a jacket made from airbrushed fabric – was a gold key winner at the regional National Scholastic contest in South Bend.

A large crowd lined Buffalo Street on the east side of the courthouse this morning as teams from 31 Indiana fire departments competed in exciting waterball contests. This was the last big day of the Indiana Volunteer Firemen’s Association state convention in Warsaw - and everyone was anxiously awaiting the two-hour parade, beginning at 5 this evening, which officially ends the three-day program. Delegates from the 350 fire departments in the state elected 1961-62 officers at their business session Friday afternoon.

Rev. M.S. Livengood left recently for Indianapolis to attend a trustees meeting of Indiana Central College. He will spend several days there and and will be joined later by Mrs. Livengood. They will attend the graduating exercises at Indiana Central College, where their son, Melvin E. Livengood, is a graduate.
