10 Years Ago Josiah Hearn, of Johnson City, Tenn., likes to read so much that he won a national contest. The catch is, Josiah, 5, is blind, and he placed first in a national contest for Braille readers. Josiah’s parents are Beth and David Hearn, and his proud grandparents are James and Verlyn Hearn, Leesburg, and Larry and Kay McDonald, Warsaw. His great-grandparents are Bea Groce, Leesburg, and Glen and Glee McDonald, Nappanee. Josiah, who, according to his teacher has an extensive vocabulary, completed 2,637 pages in three months. 25 Years Ago Four members of the Triton Future Farmers of America will represent their school at the state finals June 7 at Purdue University in crop-judging competition. The team qualified by advancing through the county and area contests. They are Eric Banic, Tim Shively, Mike Kulczar and Mark Stevens. Jill Trowbridge will be competing for the state Sweetheart title. 50 Years Ago The new high school center located on the south side of Smith Street in east Warsaw is beginning to take form. The new $1,800,000 structure is expected to be ready for the start of the 1962-63 school year. The center will consist of the shop, 731-seat auditorium, art, music and cafeteria; the center building will house the 3,600-seat gymnasium and offices; another building will contain science, commerce, home economics classrooms and the library; the last unit contains 13 classrooms, plus offices and a large storage area. 75 Years Ago Ralph H. Mort, who is connected with the Metropolitan Printing company of Portland, Ore., is making a trip through the East in the interest of an improved machine on printing. He stopped recently to visit his father, south of Warsaw. Mr. Mort installed a machine in Chicago last week and is installing one in New York City this week.
