Mentone Elementary School recently received instruments through the Pepsi “Share the Joy with Music” program. Students brought in “Pepsi Notes” coupons found on Pepsi and Frito-Lay products to Tana Tinkey, music teacher, for two months and collected more than 9,000 points. Fourth-grade teacher Jeff Hunn individually collected more than 3,000 points. Through everyone’s efforts, 25 instruments were earned and a kazoo was given to each student. They are especially proud of the conga drum, the temple blocks and the steel drum.

A Wheaton, Ill., female athlete, who recently signed a letter of intent to attend Grace College on a softball scholarship, has some local connections. Anita Landrum is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Landrum, of Wheaton, and the granddaughter of the Rev. Clyde Landrums, of Winona Lake. Anita’s father, Phil, graduated from Grace College in the ’60s and was a reporter for radio stations WRSW AM-FM and the Times-Union while working his way through school.

Warsawan Howard Levin is reportedly preparing to build a new miniature golf course in the vicinity of the junction of Center and Market Streets near the city sewage disposal plant.
Claypool High School loses a top vocational-agriculture instructor, Richard Sparrow, whose land-judging teams have won international prizes. He will go to North Manchester beginning the coming fall term.

Five of the last group of seven living Civil War veterans of Warsaw, and Kosciusko County, including two past the age of 93 years, one 92 and two 88, were honored guests of Warsaw Rotarians at luncheon recently.
The guests included John Nighswander, Samuel Campbell, Jasper Frush, I.W. Sharp, Rev. Seaman. Each related interesting stories of their war experiences. Col. O.B. Kilmer and William Stewart, Spanish War veterans, and Commander Wilbur Gill, of Warsaw’s American Legion Post, were also guests.
