Dr. Ron Manahan, president of Grace College and Seminary, was awarded the 2000 William Reneker Memorial Community Service award during the Winona Lake Community Appreciation Dinner. Judy Reneker presented the award to Manahan with his wife, Barbara, by his side. The recognition honors those who give to the Winona Lake community in memory of the late Bill Reneker.

The following is a recipe from the Spotlight Contest for Vegetable-Cheese Chowder.
2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced; 2 medium carrots, diced; 1 medium onion, diced; 2 large stalks of celery, sliced thinly; 1 tsp. salt; 1-3/4 cup water; 4 tbsp. melted butter; 4 tbsp. flour; 1-3/4 cup milk; 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese; 1 lb. can cream-style corn. Cook vegetables in the salted water 15 minutes. Do not drain. Blend butter and flour until smooth, add milk, stir over low heat until thick. Add cheese, stir until melted. Add corn to the undrained vegetables then add the  cheese mixture. Heat until hot, but do not boil. Serves six. Ruth Ann King, Warsaw

Education Magazine, published by Bobbs-Merrill, recently carried an article by a former Warsaw girl, Isadora Rosbrugh Mann, now teaching at Brightwood School in Indianapolis. The article dealt with a teacher’s responsibility in understanding group behavior. It was based on her thesis for a master’s degree from Butler University. Isadora is the daughter of Mrs. Fae Rosbrugh, Warsaw, who came home from Miami, Fla., a few days ago.

Dr. J.W. Parkhill recently returned to Winona Lake after spending the winter at Fort Pierce, Fla., where he has been serving the Presbyterian church of that place as pastor. He reports that he has resigned his pastor job there and is now placed on the permanent retirement list of that church.
Loyal Breckenridge spent Friday with his brother, Dr. J.C. Breckenridge, and sister, Miss Etta Breckenridge. He was returning from New York where he made a business trip, and was on his way home to Twin Falls, Idaho.
