10 Years AgoSteve Slaughter is the valedictorian and Adrienne Wilka is the salutatorian of Warsaw Community High School's class of 2000. Slaughter, the son of George and Anne Slaughter, will graduate from WCHS with a grade point average - on a 12.0 scale - of 13.7. He plans to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he will major in behavioral science.Wilka, the daughter of Don and Lori Wilka, Warsaw, will graduate with a GPA of 13.3. She will attend Ball State University and major in architecture.25 Years AgoFlying more than 3,000 miles from Indiana to the spectacular, snow-covered Andes Mountains in Ecuador, a handbell choir from Grace College may be the first handbell performers in that nation.The group of 10 students, led by director-founder Ethel Anderson, with vocal director Richard Anderson, and chaplain Miriam Uphouse, are making an 18-day excursion to this South American country for a series of 31 performances. Their tour calls for programs on the famous radio station HCJB in Quito, and in churches and schools every day.50 Years AgoDavid V. Nye, son of Mrs. Grace V. Nye, Winona Lake, recently completed a six-day visit to Melbourne, Australia, while serving aboard the guided missile cruiser, USS Canberra, currently making a good will cruise around the world.
