10 Years AgoAfter going seven years without a Northern Lakes Conference title, Warsaw's girls track and field team ended its drought last week by winning its first NLC title since 1992.Now Warsaw has won two titles in two weeks.Warsaw won the Warsaw Sectional, the first time the Tigers have won that title since 1992. Warsaw scored 115 points, while Elkhart Central finished a distant second with 96 points. Warsaw's Summer Boyd anchored the Tigers' 3200 relay team, which finished first with a sectional record time of 9:48.59.25 Years AgoWarsaw's first female police officer was formally hired by the Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety. Board of Works members Robert Nichols, Robert Gast and Mayor Jeff Plank voted unanimously to hire Lee Ann Schacht, 21, of Syracuse, as a probationary patrolman, effective June 1. Miss Schacht will be the first woman to carry a gun and patrol city streets in a squad car.50 Years AgoSeth Lewis, son of Mrs. W.B. Lewis, Warsaw, has been cited for scholastic achievement at Butler University where he is completing his junior year. He is listed on the college of liberal arts honor roll.75 Years AgoDoris Jean Cook, daughter of Victor Cook, of Warsaw, was the winner of the W.C.T.U. gold medal oratorical contest, which was held recently at the Pierceton Methodist Church. She used as her subject "The Price of Just One Glass of Wine."All six of the contestants had previously won silver medals. A male quartet from Claypool furnished music during the evening.
