The Wawasee High school senior class of design construction, taught by Allen Coblentz, placed seventh out of 50 teams in the Indiana Mathematics Science and Technology Education Alliance Super Mileage Challenge April 30 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. The object of the competition was to design a vehicle that would get the most miles out of one gallon of fuel. WHS won seventh place in the the state with a vehicle that gets 375.4 miles per gallon.

Hair Etc., formerly the Golden Girl Beauty Salon, recently ran a contest to rename the business. The contest winner was Mary Eherenman, who received a $100 check from owner Juanita Miller.
The administration of the car seat rental program, KISS, has been passed from the Alpha Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority to the Kosciusko County Chapter of the American Red Cross. The sorority will continue to fund the program. The new KISS program coordinator is Nancy McHenry.

David Robbins, 34, a graduate of Warsaw High School, is now editor of the Port Charlotte News in Florida. The Crowell Publishing Company, which publishes many newspapers and national magazines, operates the weekly Port Charlotte News. Robbins is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Milo Robbins, of Sarasota, formerly of Warsaw. Dave attended Purdue University after graduation from Warsaw High school. His wife is the former Renata Scheer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Scheer who reside in Winona Lake.

Elenore Hatfield won first place in the poster contest sponsored at the local high school by John C. Peterson Post No. 39 American Legion Auxiliary, in connection with Poppy Day, which will be observed Saturday, May 23. The poster taking first place pictures a soldier in overseas helmet with the words “They Fought For Us,” and “Help Fight For Them.” Second place was won by Charlotte Marie Butler and third by Ora Pottenger.
