Steven Roberts, a first-grade student at Madison Elementary School, was the recipient of honors connected with the Young Authors Program. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Roberts of Warsaw.
Roberts was sponsored by Tippkee Council. This council consists of teachers from several area school systems. He was chosen as one of two children statewide to read their original creative writings before the teachers attending the annual state conference in Indianapolis recently. Steven’s presentation was well received by the convention members. He spent the remainder of the morning signing autographs with the other young author representative, Amy Kauffman of Goshen.

In just a few weeks festivity, gaiety, and fun for all will be the byword when shades of the Mardi Gras are a part of Warsaw during the 13th annual Indiana Firemen’s State Convention to be held here June 1, 2 and 3. The three-day festivities will be highlighted by what firemen say will be the biggest parade to hit this city since the  Centennial. The Warsaw Volunteer Fire Department is hosting the event in which more than 350 departments and nearly 7,000 firemen throughout the state have been contacted.

Celebrating her 70th birthday today, Mrs. Martha Lincoln Scott tramped five miles from her farm home along the highway into North Webster. She arrived in jig time, spry and laughing at Fred Seniff, North Webster telephone office manager, to whom she paid her telephone rent and then went about town doing her usual shopping.
Mrs. Scott, last year on her 69th birthday, attempted the five-mile walk, but neighbors passing in autos broke down her resistance and insisted on her riding most of the way. This year she refused to do any hitch-hiking until possibly on the return trip.
