Warsaw Community High School senior Josh Buck announced this week he will attend the United States Merchant Marine Academy in King’s Point, New York. His parents are Tobias and Donna Buck. Buck, who received a full-ride scholarship, will study logistics and continue his basketball career. Buck, a team captain on Warsaw’s basketball team, averaged 15.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game during his senior year and was named to the All-State honorable mention list by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

This recipe was submitted in the Spotlight Recipe Contest for Fruit Pizza.
Crust: 2 cup Bisquick; 1/4 cup sugar; 1/4 cup soft margarine. Glaze: 1 cup sugar; 1 cup water; 3 tbsp. cornstarch; pinch of salt. Pizza: 1 (8 oz.) cream cheese; 1/3 cup sugar; Slice strawberries, bananas, pineapples; whip cream. Prepare crust and bake at 350 degrees until brown. Spread cream cheese and 1/3 cup sugar over cooled crust. Layer strawberries, bananas and pineapple over crust. Pour glaze over fruit and top with whip cream. Jennifer Sponseller, Leesburg.

Fred Buckingham, of Leesburg, will be among 198 bicycle riders, alternates and coaches competing in the 1961 “Little 500” race at Indiana University’s Memorial Stadium. Buckingham, a freshman, is a member of the Theta Chi team. This will will be the 11th annual 50-mile classic in which the participants race on bicycles. There will be 33 teams competing.

A small black and tan dog looted the Burl Rowland grocery store yesterday and made away with a small amount of cash, being frightened by a customer and Rowland while fleeing with the money. Rowland and a traveling salesman were making change. Rowland shoved some coins across the counter to the salesman. One copper penny rolled off the counter and, as it fell, the alert hungry doggie caught it in his mouth and swallowed it before the astonished men could give chase.
