10 Years AgoNIPSCO and the city of Warsaw have finally agreed upon a price for the old NIPSCO facility.Mayor Ernie Wiggins said the city hopes to take ownership of the NIPSCO building at the intersection of Harrison and Fort Wayne Streets by July 1 and will pay $517,500 for it. The building will be used for a new city hall.25 Years AgoIndiana Gov. Robert Orr and Lt. Gov. John Mutz presented a certificate to the Hope Kirkpatrick Waldeck family, of Pierceton, recognizing them as a long-standing farm family in a recent Hoosier Homestead Award ceremony in the statehouse in Indianapolis. The Waldeck farm has been in the family since 1882. To be considered for an award, the applying farm property must produce at least $1,000 worth of agricultural products or be a minimum size of 20 acres.50 Years AgoMike Valentine, a Warsaw junior high school student, received a trophy as winner of the Zone 3 oratorical contest sponsored by Optimist Clubs and held recently at Fort Wayne. John Logue, Warsaw attorney, made the presentation. Logue is chairman of Optimist District 5 boys' work. Mike is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Valentine, Warsaw. 75 Years AgoMr. and Mrs. Albert M. Sloan, Warsaw, while on a visit to relatives near Knox, Starke County, last weekend found 93 large mushrooms within a space of about 25 feet square. A cluster of 11 fully-developed mushrooms were found growing from a single root, while several more were in clusters of two and three, all clusters intact. The freakish mushrooms were on display at the Sloan grocery and created much comment.
