10 Years Ago Because of the “energy crisis,” Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine told the Kosciusko County Council recently he will request an additional appropriation of $400,000 next month to cover the cost of gas for the year for his department. Last year’s gas budget was $67,000, but in November and December 2000, they spent approximately $13,000 of the 2001 gas budget. The 52-year-old wife of Warsaw baker Russell (Red) Smith was chosen last month as Indiana’s “Mother of the Year.” Mayor Paul (Mike) Hodges proclaimed today - May 5 - as “Helen Smith Day” in Warsaw and she will be honored tonight at a program in the Baptist Church. Lt. Gov. Richard Ristine will present an award to her. As far as this morning and afternoon were concerned, it was a normal day for Helen.
