10 Years Ago As members of the Kosciusko Leadership Academy, Christanne Howe, Stephanie Noffsinger and Angela Ritchey had to do a “white paper” project. They chose to try to get Kosciusko County designated as an All-America City community by the National Civic League. Recently, they learned their application was one of 33 finalists of the 93 applications. On June 21-22 in Atlanta, Ga., they will find out if Kosciusko County is one of the 10 finalists. 25 Years Ago Nine Warsaw Community High School athletes received most valuable and most improved awards during the school’s recent winter sports gathering. Honored were: Todd Waikel, most improved swimming; Rachel Jeffreys, most valuable girls basketball; Amy Creighton, most improved cheerleading; Brenda Kachilk, most improved girls basketball; Aaron Bruce, most improved wrestling; Kyle Hoskins, most valuable swimming; Kelly Frank, most valuable wrestling; Mike Henn, most improved boys basketball; Rick Fox, most valuable boys basketball. 50 Years Ago The Claypool land judging team coached by Richard Sparrow won sixth place in 4-H division of the international contest held last weekend in Oklahoma City, Okla. The team, made up of Steve Parker, Billy Priser, Ray Slone and Marvin Gunter, compiled 635 points out of a possible 700. The top score was 650. Two other Indiana teams were in the top six. A Porter County team won third and a Shelbyville team was fourth. 75 Years Ago Ernest Kelly, Warsaw High School senior and outstanding track star, was elected captain of the Tiger track and field team for 1936 during meeting of the lettermen of this year’s team. Kelly specializes in the half mile event and is a member of the mile relay quartet. This is the youngster’s second year as a letterman on the Orange and Black team.
