10 Years AgoLakeview Middle School has announced its mental attitude award winners for the winter sports season. They are Nick King, Derek Weaver, Jacob Gall and Troy Miller. Also, Kristina Harman, Karen Sand, Jodie Lieffring and Candice Kissane.25 Years AgoA broken water pipe forced the closing of the new Warsaw Freshman High School only two days before the scheduled dedication services for the new facility on State Rd. 15.The water pipe leading to an upstairs biology classroom sink broke and caused flooding and damage to both the upstairs and downstairs of the facility. The upper level of the 80,000-square foot building sustained damage in three classrooms and the corridor.50 Years AgoWord was received that the Claypool High School land judging team, won the international title in the 4-H division in a contest held in Oklahoma City, Okla. They won the right to participate by winning the county championship and a second-place spot in the district meet. Fourteen nations and 22 states were represented in the meet. Dewayne Yarian and Ronnnie Hathaway won individual honors. Richard Sparrow was coach. 75 Years AgoThe Yellow Banks Hotel on Webster Lake, latterly owned by the late Fred Watkins and one of the largest and most popular of Kosciusko County summer resort hotels, was purchased by J.F. Kline. Kline is a grandson of the late John F. Kline, pioneer resident and landowner of Webster Lake, and a son of Ed Kline, of Cromwell. For the past five years, he has been in business in Chicago. Mrs. Fred Watkins will be one of the assistants to the new owner.
