Marjae O’Brien completed a graphic design requirement in January. The assignment was to design a Bureau of Motor Vehicles license plate that will appear on more than 5 million Indiana cars beginning January 2003.
O’Brien, who lives in Fort Wayne attending IPFW, is originally from Silver Lake, where her parents, Michael and Joyce, still reside. O’Brien, a 1997 Warsaw Community High School graduate, was one of 16 finalists out of 1,400 designs submitted. “I was pretty excited,” she said. She is one of the sweet 16, whether or not she lands in the final five, which will be announced May 7.

Sometimes students can learn more about a person while simply visiting with them at a party. That was the intention of Joe Conlon and the Warsaw Freshman High School when they hosted a day-long birthday party to commemorate William Shakespeare’s 422nd birthday  recently. Conlon, a 38-year-old English teacher, originated the idea about eight weeks ago as part of the students’ introduction to Shakespeare, and spent a “hectic” day acting the role of Shakespeare and answering questions from the students.
