10 Years Ago Somebunny loves you - Warsaw Police Department Ptl. Brad Kellar was a good sport during an Easter egg hunt last weekend. Posing as the Easter bunny, Kellar was mobbed by many children at the event hosted for families of Winona Lake Fire Department volunteers. The hunt took place at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. 25 Years Ago The newly-formed Warsaw Wrestling Club is in operation, taking care of the logistics and planning for summer AAU wrestling action with Warsaw-area performers. Club officers are: secretary Sue Bruce and publicity Chairman Tonya Weirick; treasurer Susie Barrs and president Don MacGregor. Fund-raising activities are in the planning. Wrestling practices are held at the Warsaw Middle School for club members (grade school through high school). 50 Years Ago Steve Rife and Shane McGuire, both in the sixth grade at Jefferson School, Winona Lake, prepare to plant a tree as part of Arbor Day ceremonies recently at the school. Prior to the ceremonies Hanna Uphouse talked about the life of Joyce Kilmer and Connie Heiman recited the poem, “Trees,” which was written by Mr. Kilmer. John Groat told of the life of Johnny Appleseed, and Suzanne Kinsey gave an explanation of Arbor Day. Jefferson Principal Don Cox said that the Arbor Day ceremonies may be an annual event at the school. 75 Years Ago Rev. and Mrs. John Troy were at Winona Lake for a few days, returning from St. Petersburg, Fla., where Mr. Troy conducted a two weeks evangelistic service. Their home is in Wheating, Ill., where their son, Paul, is attending college. They were entertained while at Winona Lake by Mrs. Isabelle Gerlach. Mr. and Mrs. William Nye have returned to their home in this city after spending the past several months in Florida.
