Kosciusko County Commissioner Avis Gunter and Warsaw Schools Superintendent Dr. Lee Harman were among the “celebrities” who recently got to show off their goat-milking skills at the first Celebrity Goat-Milking Contest recently at the Taste of Agriculture. Contestants had to milk a certain amount in a specific time. Word has it that Gunter won hands down, though Harman appeared to be giving it his best effort.

Two old concession stands at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds were demolished recently to clear the way for the construction of a new, steel building that will offer cafeteria-style dining during the fair. The Burket United Methodist Church will build the new structure, which is expected to be completed in time for this year’s fair. The church also handled the demolition work, tearing down the first two stands south of the fair office and southeast of the women’s building.

A freak mid-April snowstorm paralyzed this county  (April 17, 1961) after stranding hundreds of motorists here. An estimated 275 persons have been housed in this city since last night. The Warsaw school system, civil defense officers, and uncounted volunteers processed approximately 125 persons through their facilities set up at the Warsaw High School armory. Another 150 persons were handled through the city hall. Fifty-eight Fairmount seniors were returning from their class trip to Chicago when their bus was delayed one and one-half miles north of Leesburg by six-foot snowdrifts. The bus bogged down at approximately 3:45 p.m. and it was nearly nine hours later when the hungry students arrived in Warsaw and were taken to Horn’s Sunnymede.
