10 Years Ago He’d really rather be on the links at Rozella Ford, but at age 73, Archie Caudill expects to log a few thousand more miles before he retires. Caudill, a part-time driver for Metzger and Sons Trucking, was recently honored with a Master Truck Driving Award for more than a million miles of accident-free driving by the Indiana Motor Truck Association. 25 Years Ago Wawasee High School senior Brad Traviolia signed a national letter to accept an athletic scholarship to attend Northwestern University this fall. His parents are Hal and Francie Traviolia. Traviolia, academic all-state in wrestling and football, went through a 42-0 season en route to the 155-pound state wrestling title during the past season. 50 Years Ago A tour of the R.R. Donnelley printing plant at the west edge of Warsaw highlighted the program following the noon luncheon of the Warsaw Kiwanis Club recently. Charles Lamoree was program chairman of the day and Tom Palmer was the club’s special guest from the Donnelley company. Tour guides gave Kiwanians an informative account of the progress and growth of the firm, including new buildings. Ed Holtz, a Kiwanian who is with the Donnelley firm, served with Palmer as hosts for the tour. 75 Years Ago Chief of Police Frank Lucas established a claim on the world’s eating championship here recently, when he accepted an invitation to take breakfast at the fire station. The chief said he was not in the habit of eating anything at breakfast but after scanning the articles that he ate we are interested in his definition of “anything.” Lucas consumed 30 eggs, four slices of ham, eight slices of toast, eight cups of coffee and a dozen cookies. Bud Moon, fire truck driver and chief cook and bottle washer for the occasion, was forced to forego his breakfast and include it with his noon luncheon. Moon says that he has resigned from his position as cook, if any more invitations are tendered Lucas.
