10 Years Ago FORE! When do 18 and 10 make seven? How about when a golf ball slices through the air from the 10th hole of Mill Creek Golf Course in Rochester and beans a player in the head on the 18th hole? Warsaw attorney David Kolbe was the recipient of a hole in one to his noggin there recently and it took seven staples to close the wound. Ironically, the player whose ball struck Kolbe just happened to be the administrator of Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester, where Kolbe was taken and received prompt medical attention. 25 Years Ago AKRON - Once Bill Cothran discovered the names of his long-lost brothers and sisters, it was as simple as going through a telephone directory to contact them. Those calls produced a reunion of a family split 49 years ago when their mother died. Cothran, of Antioch, Calif., was gathering information for a passport application three years ago when the Knightstown Soldiers and Sailors Home told him he was one of seven siblings. Cothran was adopted in 1937 and hadn’t heard of his family since. The reunion took place in Akron where his brother Raymond Hoover lives. 50 Years Ago “I Am Anthony”, written by Peg Stokes, a former Warsawan, is destined to become a “best seller”. That is the opinion of numerous reviewers, who have been granted a “sneak preview” of the Indianapolis author’s second novel in 10 years. Peg (Mrs. Lyall Stokes) still claims Warsaw as her hometown despite the fact she was born in Walkerton near South Bend. Her book’s opening scenes take place in Warsaw and at nearby Lake Wawasee. 75 Years Ago A unique gypsy party was given in honor of the senior girls of the Mentone High School by the Psi Iota Xi sorority. The girls were collected by the leader of the gypsy band and taken to their hide-out. They were served refreshments from a table decorated in keeping with the gypsy mode. A kettle hanging from a tripod filled with packages which contained head dress and jewelry for each one of the girls formed the centerpiece. Favors were miniature black pots hanging from tripods. Lanterns setting on logs and candles furnished the illumination. The main attraction of the evening was the presence of Madame Curry, the noted fortune teller, portrayed by Mrs. Flavia Myers.
